이게 언제 필요하냐면

sync 의 man page 가 필요한데 sync 명령어가 아닌 system call 사용 법을 알고 싶을 때 위의 Section 번호를 사용해서

man -S 2 sync

라는 식으로 사용 하시면 됩니다.
